About the book
"Don’t touch the purple elephant!" the king warned, but the purple elephant’s skin looked so soft that Prince Carmel couldn’t resist. He stretched out his hand and gently touched the elephant’s face. Immediately, the purple elephant raised his trunk and trumpeted. Then, he reared up on his hind legs...
So begins an adventure sure to delight young and old alike. The Purple Elephant can be read a chapter at a time as a bedtime story, but most will want to read straight through this enchanting tale. The Purple Elephant contains all the good old-fashioned ingredients – an adventuresome prince, a reluctant princess, a friendly fire-breathing dragon, a wicked wizard and a generous dose of humor.
About the author
Donna McFarland lives with her husband and son in Eugene, Oregon, where she teaches piano lessons. Her love for children’s literature began before she was old enough to read and as a child she dreamed of writing a children’s chapter book. She has previously published original piano compositions and arrangements, but after her son was born, she decided on a whim to write him a story. The Purple Elephant is Donna’s first book.
About the illustrator
Kim Sponaugle has illustrated more than 20 children's books. Her bright, colorful style and delightful expressions give her illustrations warmth and whimsey. A graduate of the Art Institute of Philadelphia, Kim earned a degree in Visual Communications but found "home" in children's book illustration. Kim has a gift to be able to capture the essence of a story and enhance it with her illustrations.
